Mission – To facilitate and Enhance the Community's Response to HIV/AIDS
Objectives
- To promote community participation in HIV/AIDS education and research
- To facilitate the development of social, behavioural and epidemiological research on HIV/AIDS in Hong Kong and the neighbouring regions
- To enhance the development of quality HIV/AIDS education programmes
- To provide an avenue for local and international collaboration in the fight against HIV/AIDS
Services
- Prevention and Promotion
Well designed activities ranging from population-based campaigns to target–oriented programmes are implemented to combat HIV/AIDS. Our aims are to enhance public awareness, to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission and to promote acceptance to people living with HIV/AIDS.
- Resources Development
HIV/AIDS booklets, leaflets, periodicals, publications, surveillance reports, project reports, strategies, annual reports, giveaway and other publicity materials are available at our centre. Hotlines and website services are also available to provide up-to-date information.
- Technical Support
Our HIV Prevention and Health Promotion Team is ready to provide technical support in HIV Prevention and Care to our local communities and neighbouring countries. This includes research, development, resource allocation and training.
- Training
Training programmes on HIV/AIDS prevention and care for AIDS-related workers are regularly held. Updated information on HIV/AIDS treatment and management, nursing care and counselling, public health issues, etc, are included in the programmes.
- International Collaboration
Work in partnership with regional and international HIV/AIDS professionals and expertise in order to enhance communication and to promote effective programme.
Red Ribbon Centre Management Advisory Committee
The Red Ribbon Centre Management Advisory Committee was established in March 1997. The committee comprised members from different sectors of the community. The committee is responsible for advising on HIV/AIDS prevention and health promotion activities based on the needs of the community and to serve as a monitoring body of the programme.
Red Ribbon 100
Red Ribbon 100 is a one-hundred-minute guided tour for the community. It is a packaged education programme formulated with five parts: “Red Ribbon Knowledgeland”, “Red Ribbon Travel”, “Red Ribbon Fly”, “A Little Bit of Heart” and “Red Ribbon Memories”. The programme provides HIV/AIDS knowledge and promotes acceptance to people living with HIV/AIDS. For interested parties, please contact our centre staff at telephone 3143 7200 for details.
Friends of Red Ribbon Centre
If you are aged 11 or above and wish to increase your HIV/AIDS knowledge, simply join the “Friends of Red Ribbon Centre” scheme by completing the application form and return to us by mail or fax, and you will then receive Newsletter and other publications regularly.

Facilities
Our Centre consists of a library, audio-visual room and exhibition area with a good collection of references on HIV/AIDS locally and worldwide. All are welcome for visit.
Besides, a lecture room, conference room and activity area are also available for centre-based activities, and also free of charge for related organistions to hold activities on HIV prevention and health promotion. For interested parties, please contact our staff at 3143 7200 for enquiry.
Red Ribbon Centre – UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support is an education, research and resource centre operated by Special Preventive Programme Centre for Health Protection of Department of Health. The establishment of the centre has been made possible through the sponsorship of AIDS Trust Fund.
